1) "An Emblem of America" with Columbia holding an American flag emblazoned with an eagle while directing two dark-skinned boys in feathered headdresses to gaze at a column decorated with oval portraits of "Columbus", "Americanus" (Vespucci), "Sr. W. Raleigh", "Franklin", "General Washington" and "Thomas Jefferson".
2) "An Emblem of Asia" with a figure in a turban holding the Koran, and a pyramid, camels and an elephant with a palanquin in the background.
3) "An Emblem of Africa" with a Black man wearing an animal skin, headdress and beaded jewelry and holding a bow while standing outside a tent in a river landscape.
4) "An Emblem of Europe" with a finely dressed woman holding a Rod of Aesculapius and leaning on a stack of books atop a table filled with scientific instruments within a red-draped interior overlooking a harbor.
Housed in giltwood frames with black eglomise mats. Period ink inscriptions and newspaper clippings verso.

  • Dimensions: 10" x 8" sight. Framed 16" x 12".
  • Condition: Wear to frame and mats. Mezzotints not examined out of frame, but colors are bright and no significant damages were noted.
