An elegant French Louis XV style fauteuil armchair, beautifully executed with a richly carved walnut frame and upholstered in an exceptional Aubusson-style floral tapestry depicting an elaborate classical urn overflowing with blossoms amidst scrolling acanthus foliage and flowering vines. The graceful molded frame displays the hallmark Rococo elegance of the Louis XV period, featuring flowing cabriole legs, carved shell and foliate cresting, scrolling padded arms, and a serpentine seat rail centered by a carved shell motif. The warm walnut finish beautifully complements the soft pastel palette of the tapestry upholstery, whose woven design recalls the celebrated decorative textiles produced in Aubusson and Beauvais during the eighteenth century. Generously proportioned and exceptionally comfortable, the chair offers a deep upholstered seat and supportive high back while maintaining refined proportions suitable for formal living rooms, libraries, bedrooms, or traditional interiors. The richly woven upholstery serves as both textile and artwork, making the chair a striking decorative statement from every angle. Inspired by the furniture commissioned for the French court during the reign of Louis XV, fauteuils of this form remain among the most admired seating designs ever produced. This twentieth-century interpretation faithfully captures the elegance and craftsmanship of its eighteenth-century predecessors while offering practical comfort for modern interiors. A handsome and decorative accent chair that combines fine carved woodwork with luxurious tapestry upholstery in one timeless presentation.

  • Literature: Inspired by eighteenth-century French Louis XV fauteuils, this chair reflects the graceful Rococo aesthetic characterized by serpentine lines, cabriole legs, carved shell ornament, and flowing foliate decoration. The Aubusson-style tapestry upholstery references the celebrated woven furnishings produced in the historic weaving centers of Aubusson and Beauvais, whose richly colored floral and verdure compositions have furnished Europe's finest interiors for centuries.
  • Circa: Mid to Late 20th Century, circa 1960–1980.
  • Condition: Overall very good vintage condition. Structurally sound and sturdy. Upholstery remains clean and attractive with light, scattered wear consistent with age and normal use, including minor fraying at a few seams and edges. Walnut frame exhibits expected surface wear, minor finish rubbing, and light abrasions commensurate with age. Presents exceptionally well.
