14x18This 19th-century lithograph, likely a plate removed from Caldwell's Atlas of Harrison County, Ohio, published circa 1875, depicts Highland View or Noah Knob, the residence and farmstead of Joseph Bernhard. The pastoral scene, set in Short Creek Township, Harrison County, Ohio, illustrates a prosperous mid-to-late 19th-century American farm. The composition features a two-story farmhouse and multiple large barns in the mid-ground, with a detailed foreground showing various livestock, including cattle, sheep, and horses. Several figures are depicted engaged in rural activities. The lower margin contains printed text identifying the property: Highland View or Noah Knob, Res. of Joseph Bernhard Short Creek Tp. Harrison Co. Ohio., Farm containing 160 acres well watered & timbered, excellent for sheep or grain., and 200 thoroughbred sheep. The work is printed on paper and is housed in a stained wood frame with a cream-colored mat and a corrugated cardboard backing secured by glazier points. No plate marks or publisher information are visible on the exposed portion of the sheet.
