JOHN F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION RELIC
JOHN F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION RELIC A chilling relic from the assassination of President John F. Kennedy: a substantial approx. 3.5 in. x 3.5 in. piece of the blue leather seat upon which he and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy sat when Lee Harvey Oswald pulled the trigger on his Carcano rifle, tragically ending the young president's life. Accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Bobby E. Farish, 1p. June 6, 2005, which reads, in part: ‘…Enclosed please find the aforementioned swatch of dark blue leather removed from the Presidential limousine of John F. Kennedy, taken as a relic following our fallen leader's assassination in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. This leather was initially sold to the well-known and respected Presidential memorabilia collector Raleigh DeGeer Amyx by the White House's Technical Service Representative F. Vaughn Ferguson on November 22, 1982 and was owned by Mr. Amyx up until the point it was purchased by my collection. According to the facsimile copy of F. Vaugh Ferguson's original transferal letter, furnished to me by Amyx at the time I acquired the swatch, this leather was removed at the White House four days after the assassination, as part of the refurbishing process directed by newly-sworn-in President Lyndon Johnson. There were two shades of blue leather removed from the vehicle by F. Vaughn Ferguson: light blue and dark blue. The dark blue leather was removed from the border of the rear seat where President Kennedy was seated at the time he was shot. The light blue leather originated from the center of the rear seat…'. A copy of Ferguson's letter and DeGeer Amyx correspondence with photographs is included.
