Signed by Francis Townsend, instituted by William Lyman, Consul of the United States to London; signed by Townsend, Windsor Herald, College of Arms, and John Ansley, Lord Mayor of London sworn at Mansion House, 1st day of February, 1808, 32nd year of Independence of said States. Retains binding ribbon with British red wax seal, plus American Consulate paper seal.

10" x 15" bi-fold, separating at some folds.

William Lyman (1755-1811) from Massachusetts, was a 1776 Yale graduate, Militia officer during the war, US Representative 1793-1797, appointed Consul to London in 1804, died in that office in London in 1811. (We were back to war the next year).

John Ansley (1774-1845) was Sheriff of the City of London, Lord Mayor 1807-1808, Vice President of the Royal Literary Fund.

Francis Townsend (active 1784-1819). Windsor Herald of Arms in Ordinary was an officer of arms at the College of Arms in London. Townsend was born at the College, following in his father's footsteps to the rank of the Rouge Dragon in 1820.
