AFRIKAKORPS PANZER OBERGEFREITER P.O.W. DOSSIER
An interesting group of items related to Robert Frey, DB-GEFR, 15th Panzer Division, captured in Africa 8/05/1943. The lot includes: Frey's POW transfer form with stamps showing his movement from POW 2232 on Apr. 23, 1946 to 186 POW Camp on March 27, 1947; Frey's ‘Prisoner of War Index Card' with his photograph affixed, stamped Oct. 7, 1948; an application for medical treatment for a ‘ganglion l[eft] wrist', Feb. 2, 1947; Frey's ‘Clothing and Equipment Record', March 26, 1947; a 5 x 7 in. sepia photograph showing Frey and fellow soldiers in the camp; a blank form for replacement of shoes; an undated medical exam record stamped ‘fit'; and a notice from the ‘Association of Former Prisoners of War in the USA – Cologne Headquarters' that acknowledges receipt of a letter. Overall very good, worthy of further research. The 15th Panzer Division was deployed to Italian Libya on April 5, 1941, and there joined Rommel's Afrikakorps as a ‘blocking force'. The 15th was part of the German offensive in January 1942 that retook Benghazi, thence seeing action in the Battle of Gazala, El Alamein, the capture of Tobruk, and eventually the Battle of Kasserine Pass.
