Document, signed. Post-war prize money receipt on Treasury Department letterhead. Dated November 11, 1865, Washington, D.C. Promise of payment to William W. McKean (1800-1865) Union admiral, grandson of Signer Thomas KcKean. He rose to the rank of flag officer in command of the Gulf Blockading Squadron in early 1862 and later the East Gulf Blockading Squadron. Letter states the sum of $3,130.30 is due to McKean as his share of prize money for the capture of the Cuba and other ships by the U.S.S. Colorado. McKean died April 22, 1865, and so this letter was sent to his wife D. Rosa McKean in Binghamton, New York.
