Peter Max has not been painting since 2016 and under health issues and conservatorship. See FreePeterMax.org Born in Germany in 1937, Peter Max developed a passion for art when his family relocated to China during the Nazi Movement. The richness and diversity in culture sparked his interest, but even surrounded by this beauty he dreamed of moving to America. After Max’s move to the United States, he settled in Brooklyn and studied at the Art Student League in Manhattan under the guidance of renowned figure drawing instructor, George Bridgeman. Following a series of special commissions and successful exhibitions in the 60’s, his popularity grew even further. By 1969 he was on Johnny Carson show and cover of Life magazine. He had his art on more than 100 products and produced original 36 x 24 lithographic posters, that sold in all the retail stores, and sold in the millions, unfortunately most did not survive after being stuck on walls with pins etc, they are now very rare and sought after in good condition. This situated the young artist at the center of an artistic and Cultural Revolution. Aside from his psychedelic subject matters and astrological designs, Max would often use American symbols and icons in his paintings. One of his most famous subject matters, the statue of liberty, began in a series of paintings in 1976 which helped fund the restoration of the statue in NYC. Peter Max was named an official artist of the U.S. team at the Winter Olympics in Turin after being awarded the same tribute for the USA World Cup in 94’. Additionally, Max was named the artist of the World Series in 00’, the Grammy Awards in 89’, 91’, 93’ and 2003, the US Open, the Indy 500, the New York City Marathon, the Kentucky Derby, and an impressive five NFL Super Bowls. It is without question that Peter Max is one of the most famous of all living artists and part of what comprises American art-culture. His art serves as a point of positivity and joy for all whom are able to experience his work. Bridging the gap between educated fine art collectors and those whom simply enjoy his imagery, Peter Max’s art truly unifies his viewers of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Peter developed dementia and has not painted very much or well since around 2016, he is now under conservatorship, see freepetermax.org Terms & Conditions Summary By bidding, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to all terms and conditions of this auction provided prior to registration.
