Incredibly Attractive Johnny Weyerts Panel Scene Engraved and Gold Inlaid Brad Johnson Antique Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Lever Action Takedown Rifle in .475 Turnbull with Case and Extra Barrel Originally manufactured in 1888, this Winchester Model 1886 was expertly upgraded by Brad Johnson and masterfully engraved by Johnny Weyerts, as well as being chambered for the powerful .475 Turnbull. The barrel for this rifle was produced by Doug Turnbull Restorations, and the caliber is perfectly suited for a high grade deluxe big game hunting rifle such as this. Johnson (1959-2022) earned a reputation in Hollywood films and television, particularly Westerns, as well as famously being the "Marlboro Man" for a time. After retiring from acting he began restoring Winchester Model 1886s, showing particular talent, as is clearly evidenced by the stunning rifle. Along with the incredible work by Johnson, this rifle features extensive engraving by Master Engraver Johnny Weyerts (1936-2025). In 2002 Weyerts was awarded Engraver of the Year at the Will Rogers Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Contemporary Cowboy Skills. The engraving on the receiver of the rifle features two extremely detailed panel scenes, with the left of the receiver exhibiting a cape buffalo bull, while the right has an American bison bull. Both of the panel scenes are surrounded by elegant decorative borders and floral scrollwork. The bottom of the receiver has the initials "DFS" inlaid in gold and additional scrollwork. There are additional flourishes of scrollwork on the breech end of the barrel, takedown collar, and the forearm cap. The receiver, hammer, lever, takedown collar, and forearm cap are all finished in incredibly vibrant case colors. The top of the barrel has a reproduction of the two-line Winchester address, as well as the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the standard three-line model and trademark, while the lower tang is marked with the two-line patent date and serial number. It is fitted with a rare Marble No. 3 beaded blade sight with additional flip-up bead, no provision for a rear sight on the barrel, a Lyman peep sight mounted on the left of the receiver that is engraved to match, and sling swivel eyes on the bottom of the forearm cap and the stock. It is mounted with an magnificently figured forearm and pistol grip stock, both with factory style H-pattern deluxe checkering, a smooth steel grip cap, a shadowline cheekpiece, and a leather-covered recoil pad. Includes a highly attractive leather wrapped and brass cornered oak takedown case with interior fitted for the rifle containing an included cleaning rod, oil bottle, leather sling, and cleaning tools. Also included is an extra 22 inch Brad Johnson produced barrel in .50 Express with matching engraving on both the breech of the barrel and the takedown collar, an empty front sight dovetail, and no rear sight dovetail.
