A sterling silver sugar sifter spoon in the Louis XV pattern by Whiting Manufacturing Co. The piece features a broad, circular bowl with a scalloped rim chased with scrollwork. The center of the bowl is pierced with a decorative pattern consisting of fleur-de-lis and small circular apertures for sifting sugar or straining berries. The handle is decorated in high relief with ornate rococo scrolls and foliate motifs characteristic of the period style. The terminal of the handle is engraved with an intertwined script monogram. On the reverse of the handle, the piece is marked with the Whiting Manufacturing Co. hallmark of a stylized lion rampant facing left, the word STERLING in uppercase serif letters, and the inscription PAT. 1891, which refers to the patent date for the Louis XV pattern.
