An intricately carved antique ivory tusk depicting three of the great military kings of Poland: Zygmunt III, Stefan Batory, and Jan III Sobieski. From base to top, the horn depicts a dragon, a dragon being attacked by a pack of dogs, the portrait of Zygmunt III and the Polish Eagle, and finally Stefan and Jan III. This is indicative of a narrative being told by the horn, as the dragon (chaos) gives way to the hounds (representing medieval knightly culture), then a series of kings in sequential order to Poland's height as a military power in the seventeenth century. Tight fitted multi-piece construction is indicative of a late 18th or early 19th century construction. Approximately 25 inches long. No international shipping.
