Andes Mountains, Colombia, ca. 1000 - 1550 CE. Fine high quality cast gold standing female votive figure of angular form, her head is slightly tilted to the right, and having wide angular shoulders. Wearing a multi banded headdress, large spiral ear ornaments, and a very elaborate multi-strand necklace with two large disc pendants. Holding a child with both hands in front of her stomach. An exceptional example. According to Warwick Bray, The Gold of Eldorado, these figures. “are usually found buried in pots or thrown into lakes. Like the ‘ex. Votos’ offered to Catholic saints today, their purpose may have been to thank the gods for past help, or to serve as gifts in anticipation of future services.” XRF analysis: Gold: 12.5K Gold: 52% Silver: 13.5% Copper: 34% Iron: 1/2%.
