Scarce Factory Engraved John Dickson & Son Assisted-Opening Round Body Double Barrel Shotgun with Case Completed in 1917 according to page 81 of Nigel Brown's "British Gunmaker's Volume Two: Birmingham, Scotland & the Regions" as one of fewer than 2,000 of these round action guns completed since 1880. The gun has blacked steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single bead sight on the smooth concave game rib which is marked "JOHN DICKSON & SON, 63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH." along with a flourish of scroll engraving around a gold "2", a band of engraving at the breech, import mark on under rib, period London proof marks, and chambers measured 2 1/2 inches with ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened Dickson patent treble grip assisted-opening round body triggerplate action which displays rare near full coverage bold scroll engraving surrounding "JOHN DICKSON & SON./PATENT" markings on either side before continuing onto the upper tang, blacked toplever which has a gold "2", and blacked trigger guard/lower tang. The engraving was likely cut by the shop of Harry Kell in SoHo. The gun features an exceedingly rare Dickson 1910 patent non-selective single trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid "SAFE" indicator. The gun is fitted with a highly figured splinter forend with engraved casehardened iron and Anson button release with gold inlaid "2" as well as a straight grip stock with blank gold stock oval and a leather covered recoil pad. Includes a maker's leather flat case, cleaning tools, and a pair of snap caps. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech proofed at "12" (.729 inches) and measured .735/.737 inches; choke constriction .008/.021 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.025 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 15 3/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 6 oz.

Mechanically excellent. The case is very good. A great opportunity to own one of the original round body shotguns!
