A cabinet photo of a Native American woman taken by photographer Roland Reed, usually circulated under the title 'Proud Heritage.'. The origins of this photo are contested; with two possible origin stories. One version lists the subject as an unspecified Piegan woman; the more common but less substantiated story is that this is the photo of an Ojibwe woman named 'Little Bird,' who had survived the Wounded Knee Massacre as an infant and died from the Spanish Flu shortly after this photo was taken. Whether or not the biographical beats are accurate, the woman depicted is certainly Piegan. Cabinet photo produced by G. W. Tallman. 4.4x6.6 inches.
