A substantial and highly decorative Chinese archaistic bronze-style tripod censer and cover, modeled after the celebrated ritual "ding" vessels of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Cast with impressive taotie mask motifs, leiwen (thunder pattern) borders, and stylized geometric ornament, the vessel stands upon three cylindrical legs and is surmounted by a distinctive openwork twin-bird handle, faithfully echoing ancient Chinese bronze prototypes. The removable circular cover is similarly decorated with a large taotie mask medallion and repeating archaic key-fret border, creating a visually cohesive and architecturally balanced form. The vessel retains its fitted pale celadon-colored glass liner, allowing it to function as a cachepot, jardinière, or decorative centerpiece while protecting the interior. The verdigris patinated finish convincingly emulates the appearance of excavated ancient bronzes, making this an elegant example of the enduring fascination with China's classical ritual forms. Decorative reproductions of archaic bronzes became increasingly popular throughout the 20th century, prized by collectors and interior designers alike for their sculptural presence and historical inspiration. Equally suitable as an ornamental vessel, planter, or statement decorative object, this impressive example combines the timeless aesthetic of ancient Chinese ceremonial bronzes with practical modern functionality. Its bold architectural form, richly cast ornament, and fitted glass insert make it an eye-catching addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

  • Circa: Circa 1960–1980
  • Condition: Good vintage condition overall. The bronze-style body and cover exhibit light surface wear, minor rubbing, and expected age-related handling wear consistent with display. The fitted celadon-colored glass liner has a visible crack along the rim, as shown in the photographs, but remains seated within the vessel. No significant losses or structural damage to the metal body observed.
