A group of sterling silver flatware pieces in the Louis XV pattern by Whiting Manufacturing Company, patented in 1891. The collection consists of four all-silver butter spreaders featuring two distinct blade styles: two with narrow, curved blades and two with broader, paddle-shaped blades. The handles are decorated in an ornate rococo style with scrolling foliage and shell motifs. Each handle is engraved with a script monogram, appearing to be the letter H. The reverse of each handle is stamped with the Whiting Manufacturing Company trademark consisting of a griffin, the letter W in a circle, and a lion passant. Additional markings include STERLING, PAT. 1891, and the numeric code 28. A retailer mark for B.B.Co. (Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co.) is also present on the handles.
