An exceptionally decorative and impressive pair of monumental Continental porcelain five-light candelabra, crafted in the exuberant Rococo Revival taste of the late nineteenth century. Richly modeled with abundant hand-applied floral garlands, blooming roses, scrolling foliate branches, and charming winged putti ascending the central standards, these highly ornamental examples embody the luxurious porcelain artistry produced by leading Continental factories during the Victorian era. Each candelabrum is composed in multiple sections, featuring a central baluster-form standard rising from a broad, flower-encrusted circular base populated with delicately modeled cherubs amidst cascading blossoms and foliage. The detachable four-arm upper branches surround a central candle socket, each arm lavishly decorated with applied porcelain roses and leafy vines. Soft pastel enamels of blush pink, pale turquoise, lavender, cream, and vibrant green are accented with hand-applied gilt highlights, creating an elegant palette characteristic of fine Continental decorative porcelain. The undersides bear an underglaze blue crossed-line factory mark. While presently unattributed, this style of mark and the highly ornate modeling are consistent with Continental porcelain production of the late nineteenth century, particularly among German and Bohemian workshops inspired by the celebrated Meissen tradition. Highly decorative and visually striking, this pair would make an exceptional centerpiece for a formal dining room, grand mantel, or important collection of Continental decorative arts. Their elaborate floral modeling, sculptural quality, and imposing scale exemplify the craftsmanship and romantic exuberance that made these porcelain candelabra prized luxury objects throughout Europe during the Victorian period. The lot includes both complete candelabra, each with removable four-light upper branch assemblies.

  • Provenance: Comparable examples illustrated in: • Ludwig Danckert, Handbuch des Europäischen Porzellans • Gordon Campbell, The Grove Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts • Meissen and Continental Rococo Revival porcelain candelabra produced during the late nineteenth century.
  • Circa: Late 19th Century, circa 1880–1900.
  • Condition: Overall very good antique condition consistent with age and display. The removable upper candle arm assemblies are present on both examples. Scattered minor losses, restorations, and small chips to the delicate applied porcelain flowers, petals, and foliage are present, as expected with highly modeled porcelain of this type. Light wear to gilt decoration and minor surface wear throughout. No obvious major structural damage observed from the photographs. Buyers are encouraged to examine all images carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition report.
