A Victorian-era small cylindrical jar manufactured by Wedgwood, dating to approximately 1890. The vessel is constructed of black basalt stoneware with a creamware glazed interior. The exterior body is decorated with an applied relief-molded band of scrolling flowers and foliage in a Rococo-revival motif, which is finished in gilding. A gilded beaded shoulder band and a plain gilded band at the foot complete the ornamentation. The rim of the jar is threaded, indicating it was originally fitted with a screw-on lid. The underside of the base is impressed with the maker mark WEDGWOOD. A circular silver-tone sticker for the RUBIN COLLECTION is present on the base.
