Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture., ca. 1100 - 1470 CE. A quaint hand-built pottery jar featuring a rounded base, a conical neck, and a rotund body with an abstract linear motif incised across its exterior. The surface is highly burnished displaying a nice lustrous sheen. The neck has been painted a dark brown with a cream-colored stripe encircling its base. The globular body is a deep orange hue with a varnished wood presence. Along its tapered shoulders are incised panels, two on each of its sides, all identical in nature and execution. Abstract anthropomorphic forms including feet and human-like silhouettes can be deciphered when closely observing the loose compositions. The sides of the vessel are accented by narrow stripes illustrated with upward facing triangles or arrows. Size: 6" W x 7.75" H (15.2 cm x 19.7 cm)

Provenance: Tull collection, Fresno, California, USA 2021; ex-Artemis Gallery; ex-private Drimmer collection, Florida, USA, before 1965
