ORIGINAL PRODUCTION BLUEPRINT OF THE MOVIE 'JAWS' PROP SHARK
An iconic piece of one of the most influential horror films of all time, a 34 in. x 18.75 in. (sight), one of the very few hand-drawn and lettered production blueprints used to construct the terrifying man-eating shark prop, that was to scare people off the beaches, both in Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster 'Jaws', as well as on practically every beach in America at the time. This oversize pencil-on-vellum blueprint was drawn by Universal Studios draftsman F. T. Wurmeer, for Art Director Joe Alves. Depicts a side view of the hydraulic operation of the full-size mechanical Jaws shark affectionately known as 'Bruce' (named after Spielberg's lawyer), along with a variety of notes stating for example that the hydraulic system of the shark's mouth used sea water as 'power fluid', as well as: 'Head moves up at this point' and 'Head bending point for biting'. The title of the drawing reads: '24 [foot] Shark-Schematic Operation - Mouth Wide Open Showing 'Snarl..Head Bends Upward...Jaws open 24 3/4 [inches]...Upper Gums Bared in 'Snarl'...' There is a also a scale-conversion chart, indications of the degrees of swing, etc. Fine condition, double-matted and framed in black wood with a brass descriptive plaque. Accompanied by an original 2003 letter of provenance from James Latta which reads in part: 'I acquired this piece as part of a lot of rare, original Jaws pencil Blueprint illustrations, directly from Universal Studios, during my tenure as a Film and Television Memorabilia Buyer and Executive Consultant to the Planet Hollywood Restaurant Corporation (1992- 1997). The majority of the original Jaws pencil Blueprints, which have circulated on the Hollywood memorabilia circuit over the past eight years, were part of this historic original Jaws movie prop Blueprint find, mentioned above...' Also present is Latta's signed certificate of authenticity and several publications showing his involvement in the film prop memorabilia industry. A still-terrifying reminder of one of Spielberg's greatest movies, made fifty years ago!
