Extremely Rare, Only Known Documented Nickel Finished Prototype Smith & Wesson Model 19-2 Double Action Revolver with Three Inch Barrel and Factory Letter The included factory letter states that this revolver was shipped on November 4, 1966, to the George Cake Co. of Berkeley CA. The letter also states that this revolver was a special production item and built using a round butt frame from the United States Navy contract, a special 3 inch barrel, red ramp front sight, white outline rear sight, target hammer, smooth target trigger (currently fitted with a serrated trigger, original trigger is included), nickel finish, and select round butt grips. The United States Navy contract refers to the 1965 order of 1,000 round butt Model 19s with 4 inch barrels placed by the Office of Naval Intelligence, all with serial numbers falling in the range from K544000 and K624000, which this revolver falls firmly between. The letter further states that this serial range of Model 19s built with 3 inch barrels were assembled as prototypes to the eventually cataloged standard 2 1/2 inch barrel length, and that this revolver is the only known example with nickel finish, making this an incredibly rare, one-of-a-kind revolver! Included with the revolver is the original factory box marked "3' Bbl/STOCKS" in the special features section of the end label and containing the aforementioned original smooth trigger.
