A French peddler’s crucifix with a lead punchwork sheet mounted to a pine cross. France, 18th century. The punched and embossed lead decoration incorporates a Corpus Christi and symbols of the ArmaChristi arranged along the cross, a type commonly sold by itinerant peddlers and intended for domestic devotional use. The contrast between the dark painted pine cross and the bright metal ornamentation creates astriking folk-art appearance. 10 1/2" x 5" x 7/8".
