Magna Graecia, ca. 5th century BCE. Bronze round lidded container having a large floral element on the center of the lid, and a small ball knob handle. Lid secured with an upright pin hinge. A very nice example.

Such containers were produced across the Greek world from mainland workshops to the colonies of Magna Graecia and Asia Minor, and were frequently deposited in female burials as expressions of personal identity, beauty, and status. A very fine example of ancient Greek bronze work. Size: 1.63”H x 4.25”D (4.1 x 10.8cm).

Provenance: Ex. Royal Athena Galleries, copy of Invoice #9603, June 2, 2003, and gallery label. Ex. old Viennese collection.
