Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle Manufactured in 1883, this is an attractive example of the iconic Winchester Model 1866 that was made when the American West was still very much wild. Many legendary firearms are often cited as "guns that won the West", however, there are perhaps no long guns more recognizable than the brass-framed Winchester Model 1866. These rifles simply have "the look" of having been there when the West was being tamed and many of them were carried for decades on the frontier by lawmen, cowboys, outlaws, Native Americans, gold prospectors, and settlers. With so many of these '66s seeing extensive service in the harsh environment of the western frontier, relatively few have survived for collectors today. This example is a Fourth Model, with the serial number marked in script digits at the tail of the lower tang. The standard two-line address and King's patent marking is on top of the barrel. It is fitted with a German silver No. 21 blade front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 22 notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate containing an included four-piece metal cleaning rod.
