A distinctive mid-century marine-inspired wall clock by Schatz, West Germany, from the firm's celebrated "Royal Marine" series. The clock features a polished brass porthole-style bezel enclosing a crisp white dial with bold Arabic numerals, inner 24-hour military time markings, blued steel hands, and dual winding arbors for the time and strike movement. The dial is signed "Schatz Royal Marine," marked "Made in West Germany," and bears the coveted "7 Jewels" designation. Mounted on a custom fan-shaped teak backboard with brass trim, the presentation evokes classic nautical instrumentation while complementing mid-century modern interiors. The brass bezel is fitted with a hinged opening and latch in traditional ship's clock fashion, allowing access to the dial and movement. Schatz marine clocks have long been prized for their robust mechanical construction and dependable eight-day movements. Combining maritime design with German precision engineering, this example offers both decorative appeal and practical functionality for collectors of nautical antiques, mid-century design, or fine mechanical clocks.

  • Literature: Schatz (August Schatz & Söhne) of Triberg, West Germany, was internationally renowned for producing precision mechanical clocks, particularly its Royal Marine series of ship's clocks featuring jeweled eight-day movements and brass porthole cases inspired by traditional maritime timepieces.
  • Circa: Late 1960s–1970s.
  • Condition: Overall very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. The brass bezel exhibits an attractive aged patina with minor surface marks. The teak mounting board shows light handling wear. The dial remains clean and highly legible with minor age-related spotting visible upon close inspection. Retailer's label affixed to the reverse from Roper's Jewelers, Auburn, California. Mechanical functionality has not been tested for long-term accuracy or strike performance and is therefore offered as-is.
