An elegant Louis XV-style slipper chair, beautifully executed with a carved and parcel-gilt wood frame featuring graceful Rococo curves and richly sculpted floral ornament. The shaped crest is centered by an exuberant shell and acanthus carving, echoed by a finely carved floral cartouche adorning the serpentine apron. The sweeping cabriole legs terminate in tightly scrolled feet, lending the chair its distinctly French silhouette. The chair retains its richly textured floral upholstery in warm ivory, gold, sage, and blush tones, accented with decorative gimp trim framing the serpentine back and generously padded seat. The removable loose cushion provides exceptional comfort while preserving the refined proportions of the original design. The softly distressed painted and parcel-gilt finish enhances the chair's Old World character, with natural wear contributing to its authentic decorative appeal. Inspired by the celebrated furnishings of eighteenth-century France, Louis XV furniture is prized for its asymmetrical ornament, flowing lines, and emphasis on comfort and elegance. This handsome example captures those qualities while serving as a sophisticated accent chair suitable for traditional interiors, French country estates, Hollywood Regency décor, or eclectic contemporary spaces. An attractive decorative furnishing offering timeless European style and craftsmanship, equally suited for use in a bedroom, dressing room, formal sitting room, or grand entry hall.

  • Literature: This chair is executed in the Louis XV Revival taste, drawing inspiration from the Rococo furnishings produced during the reign of Louis XV (1715–1774). Characteristic features include the shaped upholstered back, cabriole legs, carved floral ornament, serpentine apron, and emphasis on graceful asymmetrical movement. Revival examples of this style remained highly desirable throughout the twentieth century for both traditional and luxury interiors.
  • Circa: Mid to Late 20th Century, circa 1960s–1980s.
  • Condition: Overall very good vintage condition. Structurally sound and sturdy. Upholstery presents well with light, age-appropriate wear and minor compression to the loose seat cushion. The painted and parcel-gilt finish exhibits scattered rubbing, edge wear, small losses, and surface abrasions consistent with age and use, contributing to an attractive aged patina. Ready for immediate decorative use.
