EARLY AMERICAN NEW ENGLAND NEWSPAPER FOLIOS (1808-1821), LOT OF EIGHT, from the (1) The People's Friend and Daily Advertiser (NY) 1806, (2) Boston Gazette 1808, (3) New York Columbian March to October 1810, (4) Worcester Spy 1812-13, (5) Worcester Spy January 1816 - December 1817, (6) New York Spectator 1821, and (7) Rhode Island American and General Advertiser 1818, (8) Rhode Island American and General Advertiser 1821-22. These papers cover events, such as the return of Lewis and Clark, the beginning of the War of 1812, the ongoing French Revolution and wars on the continent, Monroe's second-term inaugural address, Andrew Jackson's appointment as President Governor of Florida, and the Norfolk & Long Island Hurricane. Folios: 14" x 19" to 20 3/4" x 16" OA. 

  • Provenance:

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA. 

  • Condition:

    These are ex-library; exteriors are in good to fair condition with expected wear and discoloration. (1) leather and marble covering flaking,(2) has a cover on the front stripped off to cardboard, missing the front bottom right corner, a bit of the spine cover is missing, exposing the binding, and the back spine is detached in some places, (8) had moderate cover wear, discoloration, and staining around the corners. The spine is intact, but the cover is detached in areas. The interior are in overall good condition (1) a few pages have tears and a loss on Nov 5 and the binding comes loose around Dec 18th (2) having a couple of tears, discoloration and staining throughout, March 7 is bound upside down, (3) papers are not longer attached to the spine, the first few pages have loss to the bottom right corner, (4 & 5) pages are not cut in uniformed size, a few pages have paper tape and some pages has fold marks and a loss at the center, (6) holes in a few pages with paper tape to some, lots of ink added by previous readers marking different stories, some pages have articles cut out, loose sheet from February 27 is stamped "Property of the Library of Congress".
