Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 1900–1999 CE. A congregation of sixteen cast brass Buddhas ascends a stepped wooden platform, each figure seated in meditative repose upon its own pedestal block. The diminutive icons sit cross-legged with hands resting in the lap, robes falling in soft folds across the shoulder, crowned by the ushnisha that marks an awakened mind. Their arrangement on the tiered base evokes the rising terraces of a stupa or mountain temple, the highest Buddha presiding from the summit. Five slender parasols, ancient emblems of royalty and spiritual sovereignty, rise among the ranks to shelter the enlightened. The brass carries a dark, mellow patina that lends weight and quiet gravity to the assembly. Likely produced as a devotional or decorative ensemble, the grouping channels the layered sacred geometry of Indonesian Buddhist architecture into a tabletop tableau. Size: 16.8" W x 10" H x 7" D (42.7 cm W x 25.4 cm H x 17.8 cm D); on included custom stand: 20" W x 12.5" H x 13" D (50.8 cm W x 31.8 cm H x 33.0 cm D).

The tiered, pyramidal arrangement recalls Borobudur, the ninth-century Javanese monument where seventy-two perforated stupas and hundreds of Buddha images rise across concentric terraces toward a crowning summit, a stone mandala mapping the soul's ascent toward enlightenment. The chatra, or ceremonial parasol, is among the oldest auspicious symbols in Buddhist art: a canopy of protection signifying both temporal kingship and the sheltering authority of the Dharma. Here, five parasols distributed among the seated figures echo that vocabulary of honor reserved for sacred presence.
