Native American, Southwest, New Mexico, Santo Domingo (Kewa) and Acoma Pueblo, ca. 1900–1960 CE. A grouping of four hand-coiled Pueblo earthenware vessels from the high mesas of New Mexico. The largest, a Santo Domingo (Kewa) wedding vase, rises to twin spouts joined by an arching handle, its cream slip painted with a russet flower and dark foliate sprigs above an unslipped lower body. Beside it stand three diminutive Acoma jars: two olla forms bearing crisp black-on-white geometric lattices and stepped triangles, and a charming miniature basket vessel with a twisted strap handle and earth-toned banding. Each was raised by hand from local clays, slipped and painted with native mineral and vegetal pigments, then open-fired. Together they distill the painterly traditions of two neighboring pueblos, the bold botanical idiom of Santo Domingo and the precise abstraction of Acoma. Size of largest: 7.1" W x 7" H x 6.3" D (18.0 cm W x 17.8 cm H x 16.0 cm D).

The double-spouted "wedding vase" is among the most recognizable forms of Rio Grande Pueblo pottery, traditionally exchanged in marriage ceremonies where bride and groom drank from its paired openings. Santo Domingo (now known by its Keres name, Kewa) is celebrated for a restrained palette of black and red on cream and a fondness for bold floral and geometric motifs. Acoma, the "Sky City" perched atop a sandstone mesa, is renowned for thin-walled vessels and exacting black-on-white geometry, the fineness of its clay permitting walls of remarkable delicacy.
