AMERICAN "STRAWBERRY" VARIATION APPLIQUE AND PIECED QUILT, hand-stitched, completed in red print and solid white fabrics, 20 pattern blocks having plain sashing with "Reel / Oak Leaf" corner blocks, all four sides with leaf border, featuring diagonal straight-line and outline quilting in addition to floral and foliate motifs including scattered flower baskets along the border, applied binding, three-paneled plain backing. Mid 19th century. 78" x 96".

  • Provenance:

    Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation, and future acquisitions.

  • Condition:

    Red fabric with typical losses to dark coloring in print, otherwise in very good overall condition, top and backing also with light to more moderate toning mainly along the fold lines and edges, some stains and spotting.
