ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE BLUE TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC COFFEE AND TEA ARTICLES, LOT OF SIX, each featuring dark blue transfer images, comprising a domed baluster-form coffee pot depicting a shepherd watching over his flock with Gothic abbey ruins in background, a Clews teapot (cover lacking vent hole) and sugar set having Basket motif depicting oversized flowers in a basket, and three covered sugars including one example featuring Sproughton Chantry, Suffolk depicting two women and a child standing in foreground with a three-storey mansion in background, one example having Mosaic Tracery featuring a basket of flowers framed by scrolled design, and one example with Elaborate Floral Basket design having cover with vent hole. Marks to underside include impressed crown with "CLEWS WARRANTED STAFFORDSHIRE" and printed Chinese-style seal marks including "CLEWS / Stone China" and one with "STONE CHINA". Ralph & James Clews, Cobridge, England; and others. Circa 1825. 11 1/2" HOA.

  • Condition:

    Each having minor to more moderate imperfections; Sproughton Chantry, Suffolk sugar having some chips and/or flakes to handles, interior gallery, and underside of cover; coffee pot and Mosaic Tracery sugar having some areas of professional restoration, coffee pot also having some hairlines including to base and side; Elaborate Floral Basket sugar having poor restoration to one handle and chip to interior gallery; Basket motif examples having some scattered flakes and/or chips, teapot having radial hairline to base extending partially up some sides.
