A pair of sterling silver salad or dessert forks manufactured by the Whiting Manufacturing Company in the Louis XV pattern, which was first patented in 1891. The forks feature a highly decorative Rococo Revival design, characterized by a border of scrolls, acanthus leaves, and a scalloped shell terminal. Each handle terminal is engraved on the front with a script monogram appearing to be MB. The reverse of the neck is stamped with the Whiting company marks: a lion passant facing right, a stylized W, and a hand holding a hammer. These are followed by the purity mark STERLING and the patent date PAT. 1891. Total weight 132g.
