U.S. Springfield rifle-musket dated 1863 on the lockplate. Lock marked "U.S. Springfield" with federal eagle. Barrel retains visible eagle-head, V, and P proof marks at the breech. Buttplate tang stamped "U.S." Barrel bands are marked "U" and are installed with the openings facing the muzzle. No stock cartouches were observed. The stock bears a carved ownership inscription reading "PHoag" and a separate carved "K" on the opposite side. The significance of these carvings has not been determined, but there were at least three people named Hoag with the first name starting with P who served in the Union (excluding cavalry). The barrel date is not visible due to pitting in the area where such a date would typically be found. Overall length approximately 56" not including U.S. marked bayonet (included). This item can be shipped in-house. Multiple lot combined shipping may require 3rd Party shipping.

  • Condition: See images. Some pitting around breech. Overall solid. Mechanically fine. Barrel clean.
