Condition:
This remarkable 1970s Race Inc. frame and fork set exhibits the authentic patina and wear commensurate with its age and storied history. While structurally sound with no beads or broken welds, the aluminum frame shows widespread surface oxidation, minor scuffs, and areas of discoloration. The original decals, particularly on the head tube and fork legs, are significantly aged, exhibiting heavy cracking, fading, and areas of peeling; the 'RACE INC' lettering on the downtube is more discernible but also shows wear. The chromoly steel forks display similar surface discoloration and light rust speckling throughout. The headset components show notable surface rust and oxidation. The included Viscount Aero Seat H2101P has minor scuffs and surface wear, but remains structurally intact. The DIA-COMPE MX HINGED SEATPOST CLAMP shows expected wear and some rust on the bolt and surrounding areas. Dropouts exhibit typical wear from wheel installation. Overall, a well-preserved example, presenting honestly with its vintage character and ready for restoration or display.

Prepare to own a pivotal piece of BMX history with this exceptional Vintage 1970s Race Inc. RA-7 Aluminum BMX Racing Bike Frame & Wide Chromoly Forks. This un-stamped, original early RA-7 aluminum frame, paired with its robust, wide chromoly steel forks, represents a groundbreaking era in bicycle design and performance. Race Inc., founded in the 1970s, revolutionized the burgeoning sport of BMX by introducing lightweight, high-performance aluminum frames, a significant departure from the heavier steel frames prevalent at the time.

At the heart of Race Inc.'s innovation was the legendary designer and fabricator Bill Bastian. Bastian’s profound understanding of materials and his meticulous welding techniques propelled Race Inc. to the forefront of BMX racing. His contributions to bike design, particularly his pioneering work with aluminum, were instrumental in shaping the sport. Bastian's frames were renowned for their strength-to-weight ratio, offering riders a distinct competitive edge. Today, Bill Bastian is highly regarded as a visionary, his designs considered benchmarks in the evolution of BMX bikes, and his work remains highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This particular RA-7 frame showcases Bastian's characteristic attention to detail and robust construction. The aluminum frame features distinctive, strong TIG welds, often referred to as 'stacked dimes' for their uniform, overlapping appearance, which not only ensured structural integrity but also became a signature of quality craftsmanship. The frame's design includes strategic gusseting for added strength, vital for the rigorous demands of BMX racing. The wide original chromoly steel forks complement the frame, offering durability and precise handling. This un-stamped example is a testament to the early production runs, making it a unique and authentic artifact from the golden age of BMX. Complete with its original Viscount Aero Seat and a period-correct DIA-COMPE MX hinged seatpost clamp, this assembly offers a rare glimpse into the foundational elements of competitive BMX.
