An impressive large-format edition of the National Geographic Atlas of the Fifty United States, compiled and published by the National Geographic Society's renowned Cartographic Division in Washington, D.C. Following Alaska and Hawaii's admission to the Union, this landmark atlas was among the earliest comprehensive National Geographic publications to depict all fifty states in a single authoritative volume. Bound in its original navy blue pebbled cloth boards with striking gilt lettering and globe device, the atlas showcases the Society's celebrated cartographic standards, combining exceptional geographic accuracy with elegant graphic design. The introductory sections include reproductions of historic maps, explanations of cartographic symbols, and essays detailing the Society's mapmaking process before presenting richly detailed state and regional maps. The volume retains its original oversized fold-out map of the United States, along with numerous color maps illustrating individual states, regions, transportation networks, national parks, political boundaries, and physical geography. National Geographic atlases from this period remain highly regarded for their meticulous research, attractive printing, and durable construction, making them equally desirable as reference works and decorative library volumes.   • Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. Original hardcover binding remains sound with light shelf wear, rubbing, and minor corner and edge wear, including small losses at the upper spine/corner as photographed. Interior pages are generally clean with scattered light age toning and occasional foxing or staining to a few margins. Fold-out maps appear present, including the large United States map, and remain in good usable condition. Overall an attractive, well-preserved example.
