FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the 'New Deal' programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. Nice content T.L.S. as president on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Jan. 17, 1938 to Stephen Gibbons, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury. In part: '...I appreciate your kind thought in sending me the hat for Christmas. However, I really do not want to have it blocked yet because when it is done I would like to have it done 'country style' - soft block. I am looking forward with real pleasure to wearing the hat. It is going to be a great comfort to me at Hyde Park this summer...' Very good. Includes original White House transmittal envelope and FDR 1966 6-cent and 1982 centennial commemorative 20-cent U.S. postage stamp plate blocks of four. Ex: Heritage.
