This Russian silver beaker, also referred to as a stopka or Kiddish cup, was produced by the prominent firm of the Grachev Brothers (Bratya Grachevy) in St. Petersburg between 1908 and 1917. The piece is constructed from solid 84 zolotnik silver, which is the Russian standard equivalent to .875 fineness. The tapered cylindrical form features a flared rim and is decorated with elaborate hand-engraved ornamentation. The body is divided into decorative sections by a diamond-shaped lattice pattern of punched dots. According to documented records, the decoration includes two panels of architecture scenes; visual inspection highlights one panel depicting a traditional Russian building with a pitched roof, while an opposing panel features stylized floral and foliate motifs. The interior of the cup retains remnants of an original gilt wash. The base is clearly marked with two sets of hallmarks: an oval assay mark containing the number 84, a right-facing female head in a traditional kokoshnik, and a Greek letter for the St. Petersburg assay district; and a maker's mark featuring the Cyrillic characters Grachev set between two Imperial double-headed eagles, indicating the firm's appointment as a purveyor to the Russian Imperial Court. Total weight 24g.
