This rare U.S. Army issued wooden sled converts to a toboggan. Developed in 1943, it was designed for a 400 pound load to be pulled by 3 men with one man pushing. The 1943 design was improved and modified in 1945. It was developed during WWII for use on the snow covered mountains of Europe for the 10th Mountain Division of the US Army. The pro skiiers of the 10th Mtn. Div. helped turn the tides of War in the mountains of Germany and Italy and other European countries. The sled-toboggan convertible was also used to patrol Alaska and in the snow covered mountains of the Korean War. The sleds were discontinued soon after. US ARMY Quarter Martial issued equipment QM#3861 Original markings: Manufactured in May 1945. Made by Red Lion Cabinet Co. Serial #3082. All wood construction, with rawhide and 4 J bolts. The sled runners are designed to lock upright with the twist of 2 J bolts, or quickly release and bolt firmly in the collapsed position with all 4 J bolts for the toboggan. The backrest and handles and the tie down hardware are all intact. Original age worn paint. The rawhide ties act as hinge leathers and are still intact. The Sled measurements are: 8 ' feet long when the handles are in an upright position. 7' feet long when collapsed. 20" wide. Excellent.

All items not removed after the close of the sale may be shipped to the buyer at their expense or may be moved or stored by Milestone Auctions. Fees, rates, and insurance will be charged accordingly to the buyer.
• BIDDERS NOT PRESENT OR NEEDING SHIPPING - Shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice and are NON-REFUNDABLE. Shipping will be based on actual costs via FedEx, FedEx Freight or USPS (best way). Handling and insurance will vary in cost depending on each invoice. All packages will be shipped with insurance. Items will ship seven to fourteen (7-14) business days after payment is received.
