Watercolor rendered in soft, overlapping washes of sage green, gray, and pale earth tones, depicting a cluster of hillside buildings nestled into a sloping terrain beneath an atmospheric sky. Signed in the lower right. Framed. Not examined out of frame.

  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: Eve Menes was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and after the outbreak of World War II moved with her family to Brazil and later to the United States, growing up in New York. She earned her B.A. in art and education during the ferment of the New York art scene, studying for three years at Pratt Institute under leading Neo-Realists including Philip Pearlstein, Richard Lindner, and Gabriel Laderman, and later with John Heliker at Columbia University. Menes settled in Israel in 1970, where the distinctive Israeli light and landscape had a decisive influence on her work; she has lived in Jerusalem ever since, taught art and art history at Empire State College for 15 years, exhibited in Israel and abroad including solo shows at the Israel Museum (1993) and New York's Yeshiva University Museum (1980) and Adine Fine Art (1994) and has been a member of the Jerusalem Artists Association since 1979.
