An antique American spun copper bucket manufactured by Brown and Brothers in Waterbury, Connecticut. The vessel is constructed of seamless copper using a metal spinning process on a lathe, a technique prominent in the Connecticut brass and copper industry during the mid-19th century. It features a flared body with a rolled rim reinforced with an internal wire. The bucket is equipped with a heavy iron swing handle secured to the body by two riveted copper lugs. A circular maker's mark is stamped into the center of the exterior base, which reads: DEC 15 & JULY 15 1851 MANUFACTURED BY BROWN & BROS WATERBURY, CT. This inscription refers to the patent dates for the manufacturing process of seamless spun kettles originally granted to Hiram Hayden in 1851.
