This lot consists of two vintage gelatin silver prints on fiber paper by American photographer Eliot Elisofon (1911-1973), known for his work with LIFE magazine. These photographs document scenes from the North African campaign during World War II. The first photograph captures a war-damaged tower characterized by Moorish architectural elements, including horseshoe arches and a decorative balcony. The structure shows extensive shell and bullet damage, with several soldiers standing at the base near a shoreline. The second photograph depicts an interior scene where an officer, wearing glasses and a mustache, is seated at a simple wooden table, looking toward a standing soldier who is silhouetted against a wire-mesh window. The reverse of each print is stamped with a certification that reads: THIS CERTIFIES THIS ORIGINAL PRINT WAS PHOTOGRAPHED BY ELIOT ELICOFON, FAMOUS LIFE MAGAZINE PHOTOGRAPHER AND GIVEN TO ME BY HIM. Each is hand-signed in ink by the photographer's brother, Edward I. Elicofon. Additionally, each print bears a separate ink stamp reading: ELIOT ELISOFON.
