The block print, numbered 12 from an edition of 30 prints, is signed by the artist in pencil lower right and titled lower left. The image first appeared as a full-page illustration for the 1940 Centenary Edition of Thomas Hardy's novel, Under the Greenwood Tree, or the Mellstock Quire, published by the Macmillan Company (London and New York). Another 30 impressions were printed on Japan paper signed and inscribed by the artist as the present example. Images from this very low edition are rarely found.

  • Condition: Very good to good condition, the full untrimmed sheet with deckle edges, not laid down, no damage, punctures, tears or repair - noting the presence of tape stains at all four corners as shown in the online images, one small point of foxing and a very minor toning from a previous mat surrounds the image.

SHIPPING: After verifying that payment has been made and or all funds have cleared, Dirk Soulis Antiques LLC DBA Soulis Auctions will, as a courtesy to the client, undertake the packing and shipping of most purchases. Large items, Furniture, International Shipments and items deemed excessively fragile by Soulis Auctions may require special handling by a third party. Soulis Auctions will coordinate with the buyer's chosen shipper in these instances and will endeavor to provide as much assistance as possible. The cost for shipping handled in-house starts at $16 per box and or the actual cost of wood crate construction, in addition to the cost of insurance and postage or carrier charges. The cost of crates range by size; the majority fall into the range of $50 to $150.

STORAGE AND CARE: All bidders agree that property left at Soulis Auctions storage facilities more than 30 days past the date of sale becomes the complete and total responsibility of the buyer. Soulis Auctions will in no way be responsible for the safety of said property, Soulis will not reimburse for any damage or loss incurred after the free 30 day storage option offered as a gesture to buyer. Any and all property passes from the care, custody and control of Soulis Auctions to seller on day 31.
