Fine World War I U.S. Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter Manufactured in very early 1918, well before the end of World War I, this is a fine example of a World War I U.S. Colt Model 1911 pistol. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration, grips not listed, as well as being part of a 1,638 gun shipment to the U.S. government supply officer at the navy yard in New York on 11 February 1918, almost certainly for embarkation to Europe for issue to the American Expeditionary Force. The left side of the slide has the standard two-line, two-block patent dates and address, with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, while the right side has the standard "MODEL OF 1911.U.S. ARMY" address. The U.S. property marking is on the left of the frame along with the "JMG" inspector's mark, and the serial number is on the right. The blued barrel is marked with "P/H" on the chamber hood. It is fitted with blade and flat top notch sights, checkered slide release, thumb safety, and wide hammer, short grip safety, long smooth trigger, a pair of diamond pattern checkered grips (left panel stamped "35" near the bottom), and a later replacement "B" marked two-tone magazine.

Manufacturer: Colt

Model: 1911

BBL: 5 inch round

Gauge: 45 ACP

Finish: blue

Grips: walnut

Serial Number233411

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

  • Condition: Fine, retains 60% plus of the original blue finish with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina, primarily on edges, the front strap, and mainspring housing, and some scattered light dings. The grips are very good with moderate wear, heavier toward the bottom, scattered minor handling marks, and otherwise mostly well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
