First, I am enclosing a photocopy of myself...Regarding the awarding of the Iron Cross, I would like to tell you the following again. I first received my Iron Cross in Lauban from the local combat commander. Whether my other comrades in Berlin had received theirs before then, I no longer know. We all received an Iron Cross at the guesthouse of the Reich Youth Leader Axmann in Berlin-Gatow. We never received the Iron Cross directly from the Fuhrer, as the newsreel claimed. However, all postwar reports adopted the newsreel's account Incidentally, in Berlin there was a comrade who shot down a tank. - Well, my entry into the DJ was, of course, at the age of 10.
