Williamsburg: William Parks, 1747. First edition with pages 295-304 repeated, page 104 numbered correctly, and other second printing points according to Church. Rebacked full-leather binding. Together with Morgan Poitiaux Robinson, A Complete Index to Stith's History of Virginia. Richmond: Virginia State Library, 1912. Two pieces total. Original printed wraps.

Catalogue Note: This landmark volume is one of the first colonial histories written and published in the colonies, and the first history published in Virginia. William Parks was only the second printer in Virginia, having begun work in Williamsburg in 1730, marking the present volume one of the earliest obtainable Virginia imprints.

  • Provenance:

    From the Richard and Catherine Hubbard collection, Cape Charles/Williamsburg, VA. 

  • Condition:

    Very good condition; the interior is tight and clean, with the exception of three small sections that have browned, and tape reinforcing the interior hinges. Wear to the binding, rubbing to the spine, and a 2 1/2" crack to the rear hinge. The accompanying index is fine with an embossed seal to the front wrap.
