22.5x 29. This nineteenth-century chromolithograph, commonly titled George Washington Closing the Lodge, depicts the first American president in full Masonic regalia. Washington is portrayed standing within a Masonic temple, wearing a Master Mason's apron and a blue sash. The scene is rich with fraternal symbolism, including three architectural columns, an open Holy Bible on an altar, a square and compass, and a level at his feet. The print features a multi-color palette characteristic of late nineteenth-century commercial printing. The work is housed in a period-style two-part wooden frame consisting of a dark, reeded outer molding and a flat, gilded inner liner. The reverse is sealed with a brown paper dust cover and fitted with a modern hanging wire. No artist signature or publisher information is visible on the face of the print.
