Condition:
Shows typical signs of age, including a noticeable heavy patina and oxidation to the sterling silver base metal, particularly visible on the reverse and within recessed areas. There is minor loss of gold plating (vermeil) throughout, revealing the silver beneath. Light surface scratches and minor abrasions are present on both the metalwork and the moonstone glass cabochons, consistent with vintage wear. All clear and red rhinestones appear present; however, some show slight dulling or darkening. The fur clip mechanisms are fully functional. One of the larger moonstone glass cabochons on the smaller clip exhibits a slight internal variation or darker inclusion.

Item Description
Weight: Total: 33.7 grams

Embark on a journey through the golden age of costume jewelry with this exquisite pair of Vintage Crown Trifari fur clips, a testament to the unparalleled artistry of Alfred Philippe. These captivating pieces, featuring lustrous moonstone glass cabochons artfully arranged as grape clusters nestled among detailed leaves and sparkling rhinestones, encapsulate the sophisticated elegance synonymous with Trifari's mid-century masterpieces. This lot proudly presents two distinct sizes, offering versatile styling options.

The house of Trifari, founded in 1918 by Gustavo Trifari, rose to prominence as a purveyor of high-quality costume jewelry, often rivaling fine jewelry in craftsmanship and design. Their ascent to legendary status was largely spearheaded by Alfred Philippe, who served as head designer from 1930 to 1968. Philippe, a former designer for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, brought fine jewelry techniques like the 'invisible setting' to costume pieces, elevating them to an art form. His iconic 'fruit salad' designs, characterized by vibrant, often opalescent, glass cabochons, are among his most celebrated creations, making these grape cluster clips highly desirable.

Fur clips, a popular accessory from the 1920s through the 1950s, were ingeniously designed with a secure, double-pronged mechanism, allowing them to be effortlessly attached to various fabrics—from luxurious fur coats and delicate dresses to hats and handbags—without piercing or damaging the material. They offered a chic and adaptable way to adorn any ensemble with a touch of glamour.
