Urban Modernist industrial oil on canvas painting by Emil Ganso (German/American, 1895-1941). Depicts New York rooftop architecture with water towers, smokestacks and angular cloud formation. This particular composition VERY closely relates to Ganso's documented painting "New York Roof Tops," sold at Bonhams New York in 2008, presenting what appears to be nearly the same rooftop vantage point shifted slightly to the right. Both works share nearly identical industrial elements, geometric sky divisions, palette and architectural treatment associated with Ganso's WPA-era, Precisionist-influenced urban imagery. The faceted sky and stylized industrial geometry are characteristic of Ganso's modernist interpretation of New York architecture during the 1930s. Signed lower left. Painting is unframed and measures 30" x 25". This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice. We maintain a list of reliable shippers, or you may choose your own.
