Oil on canvas self portrait painting by Pierre Daura (Spanish, 1896-1976). Daura, a Catalan artist, is well-known for his self-portraiture, including solo show retrospectives illustrating the progression of his self portraits. Dozens of Daura's landscape and still life paintings are listed on AskArt, but only one self-portrait (sold in 2008), as most of those prized works are in museums or private collections. (His most recently offered portrait, titled Catalan Fisherman, sold at a French auction in 2024 for 105,000 Euros against a presale estimate of 5,000-8,000 Euros.) Undated, but a work from later in life, circa 1960s-70s. Canvas measures 17 1/2" x 24 1/2", nicely framed to 27" x 34". Provenance: From the estate of E. Stewart Coleman, who obtained the work directly from Martha Daura, the artist's daughter. Coleman was a philanthropist and art patron, after whom the University of Lynchburg's Coleman Gallery at the Daura Museum of Art was named in 2024.
