A fine lot of four Civil War-era carte de visite photographs, all portraits of U.S. Navy personnel, includes: a chest-up view of paymaster GEORGE DABNEY in uniform, 2.5 x 4 in. sepia, with the stamp of photographer W. L. Richardson of Lima, Peru in the plate. On the verso, Dabney pens ‘Yours Truly Old ‘Dab' A. A. Paym. U. S. N.' with the name of this ship, the sidewheel gunboat USS MOHONGO. The verso additionally shows several pencil biographical inscriptions, with minor separation between the photographic print and the backing card, and a small chip at top right, else very good. WITH: a nearly full-length, seated view of carpenter HIRAM L. DIXON in uniform, 2.5 x 4 in. sepia, with ‘Ferret, Phot. Nice.' stamp beneath the image, and a large ‘Ferret' backstamp. Dixon signs the verso with his initials in black ink, adding a sentiment. The verso further shows a pencil identifying inscription, and the top corners have been clipped, else very good. WITH: a waist-up, seated view of Lt. Commander RUFUS K. DUER in uniform, 2.5 x 4.25 in. sepia, with ‘Silli a Nice & Vichy' photographer's stamp beneath the image, and their full backstamp on the verso. Duer signs the verso in black ink at the top edge, adding his rank. Shows a horizontal crease at center, with a minor loss to the top left corner, and with a pencil biographical inscription to the verso, else very good. WITH: a waist-up, seated view of asst. engineer THOMAS J. W. COOPER in uniform, 2.5 x 4 in. sepia, with ‘A Pacelli Phot.' stamp beneath the image and full A. Pacelli of Nice backstamp on the verso. Cooper signs along the right edges of the verso in black ink, adding a sentiment, his service, location and the date ‘Jan'y 6, 1868.' Shows an approx 2 in. vertical tear at center, mended on the verso with cello tape, with the top corners clipped and a pencil identifying inscription to the verso, else very good. Four pieces.
